Hi all
I started a study, but I stacked at a point. I need some help.
Study was to combine more then 10 formal modules into one "huge" formal module.
Then I needed to link each object in the new module to old object in the original formal module.
In each individual (old) module, "prefix" was unique.
First columns name was "DOORS ID", that was given by DOORS "object identifier"
Second columns name was "Requirement", that was combination of "object text" or "object short text" or "object heading"
And there were some other columns those were needed to stay as "attributes"
What I did?
I exported each module into "spreadsheets" (I lost OLE objects but it is not a big deal for me)
I opened each spreadsheet with notepad, and changed "Requiement" to "object text", that avoid my object texts to be attributes.
They became "object text" (I lost hierarchy, but again it is not a big deal)
Then I started each csv file into one formal module, without any problem, each module merged into one module.
Now,I have a "huge" module,with
---"ID" column, that contains "object identifier" given by DOORS for new module.
---"DOORS ID" column, that contains "object identifier" coming from old DOORS module.
---"Object Text" column, that contains "object"
NOW, I need to link, all objects in new formal module, to corresponding object in the old module.
I tried, "example to link DOORS formal Modules according to a Foreign Key" DXL sample, but it didn't work, because it didn't recognize, "object identifier" attribute in the original module as "Foreign Key", i guess.
I'm not a programmer, actually I'm really bad at programming.
So can anyone help me how to modify above mentioned "sample dxl" to work as I needed.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Soltekin

Re: Linking imported objects to original objects in original module! BenSharples - Wed Oct 17 03:13:10 EDT 2012
Hi Soltekin,
There is a built in DOORS function that can be used to copy objects from one module to another and in the process also create links between the old and new objects (either forwards or backwards)
First you need to create the new module and ensure that the attributes you want to bring across all match (easiest to import the attributes into new module from one of your olod modules)
Once new module created, open up each old module in turn, and from the 'tools' menu, selection 'functions', 'copy objects'.
This will bring up a form that allows you to select where you want the objects to be copied to, which attributes to copy, and whether you want links and their direction.
cheers Ben

I will try this, thanks.

I tried the suggested way, but for some modules, that I don't have control over, owners created attributes with same names, but different enumerations.
So Copy function, gives error, stating that "The copy can not go ahead, because attributes with same name exists in both target and source modules and either have different types or mismatching enumarated values"
That means that, in the module I imported some of the attributes namely same but created differently by the owners.

I found the solution.
İn the old module I created, a DXL atrribute, based on "object identifier",
then I used the DXL code, that I mentioned in first post.
It worked flawlessly.
